Scanno!

Walter drove us to Scanno along the scariest little road that I’ve ever been on. It had such blind sharp narrow turns that there were mirrors set up in some places. After I got over my nausea the drive was very picturesque!

We got out for a quick look at Scanno Lake! It was also very picturesque and I could see how people would vacation here in the summers or on the weekends from Rome.

We got back in the car and went the short distance to the town of Scanno!! This is where Brad’s dad’s family is from!

Unfortunately they were having a big bike race in town so we had to park outside of town and walk in. It was a nice walk in seeing lots of very old buildings and traditional types of dress. We also got to try some traditional Scanno treats! Masticchoni and some other little cake and they were SO delicious and freshly made in town. Thanks to Uncle Rosano who bought us a little pack of them for the road!

We met Brad’s cousins in Scanno! Most of them only spoke Italian so Uncle Rosano had to act as interpreter again. We had a great time meeting them! Thanks to them for all the hospitality and food and drinks and umbrellas!! There was so many people that we had a hard time fitting them all in one picture …. So here are two! We will put them together somehow once we have a better computer than my netbook!

After we left the Macario house we were planning on heading over to the house where Brad’s Nonna lived but unfortunately it started raining REALLY hard!!

Here is a picture of it from the other side of town … the closest we were able to get.

Scanno was great!! Now we are off to Venice!
